  Romanian companies and other taxpayers with the identity fields ANAF republishes from the Trade Register: the ONRC registration number, the CAEN activity code, the legal and organisational form, the registered office, the competent tax office and the VAT / inactive status. Alongside it, the daily snapshot of ANAF's register of taxpayers on the VAT-cash-accounting regime (TVA la încasare), which ANAF publishes as a complete file every day, together with that register's event history. PERSONAL DATA WARNING: a large share of Romanian CUIs belong to PFA, individual enterprises and professionals, where the entity name is a natural person's name and the registered office is often a home address. The source is ANAF because data.gov.ro, where ONRC publishes the full bulk download, was not responding when this connector was built.

• Romanian public budget execution (ANAF Forexebug)

  Budget execution and budget commitments for every public institution in Romania, report by report, from the Forexebug reports ANAF publishes. One fact row is one classification line of one report — a funding source, a functional code, an economic code and a budget programme — with the amount realised year-to-date. Execution is monthly, commitments are quarterly, and the history starts in January 2016. The source publishes no monthly column: a month's own movement is the year-to-date figure minus the previous month's.

  Daily RON reference exchange rates for roughly 35 foreign currencies, gold (XAU) and the IMF's Special Drawing Right (XDR), published each banking day by the National Bank of Romania (BNR).   The full catalogue of data.gov.ro, Romania's national open data portal: every published dataset, every downloadable file with its direct URL, and every publishing institution, refreshed daily. Metadata is standardised on the way in — licenses mapped to canonical identifiers, file formats normalised and bucketed into families, Romanian titles given accent-folded search columns — so the whole portal is searchable and joinable with plain SQL, and any tabular file it lists is one read_csv_auto() away.

• European air quality (EEA)

  Europe's air quality archive, as the European Environment Agency publishes it through the Air Quality Download Service: one row per sampling point, time interval and aggregation type, from 2013 to now, for the 39 reporting countries. Both of the EEA’s quality tiers are included and flagged in a `tier` column — E1a, the verified data each country reports by 30 September for the previous year, and E2a ("Up-To-Date"), the unverified stream transmitted continuously and running about two hours behind live. The data is kept in the source’s own long form, so every pollutant a country reports is present rather than a curated handful: alongside PM10, PM2.5, NO2, O3, SO2 and CO there are benzene, the heavy metals and the rest of the Eionet vocabulary. Every value carries its validity and verification status, and the companion tables turn the codes into words: stations, sampling points, pollutants and the three code vocabularies. For Romania this is the same national monitoring network (RNMCA/ANPM) reached through the official European channel: no credentials, full history back to 2013, and verified numbers where they exist.

• European Census Hub

  The population and housing censuses of Europe, as published through the European Census Hub: every census hypercube Eurostat disseminates for the 2021, 2011, 2001 and 1991 rounds — all 143 cross-tabulations, 154,243,498 cells of them published here. The Census Hub catalogue puts the full cross-product of those same 143 cubes at 183,534,107 cells: every cube is present, but not every one is loaded to its catalogue size yet, and a `count(*)` over observations for a cube against that same cube's hypercubes.cell_count is the exact, always-current way to read off the gap rather than guess at it. The cubes cover the EU member states plus the EFTA and candidate countries. Population by age, sex, marital and family status, household and housing arrangements, country of birth and citizenship, educational attainment, activity status, occupation, industry, place of work, year of arrival and residence a year before the census, together with the housing tables — most of it down to NUTS 3 regions, which for Romania means all 41 counties and Bucharest. Every code is decoded from the source's own metadata: the nomenclature of each classification, the axes of each cube, and the NUTS geography with its level and country, so a cell can be read without a codebook.

• Eurostat statistics

  European official statistics from Eurostat, whole-office scope: each data product the EU statistical office disseminates becomes its own DuckDB table, named after its Eurostat code, with that dataset's own dimensions (geo, unit, age, sex, na_item, coicop, siec…) as real columns — so `SELECT geo, period, value FROM tps00001` reads like the indicator it is about instead of decoding a series key. The office publishes 7,570 of them and the `catalogue` table carries a row for every one; how many a deployment actually fetches is bounded by its `maxCells` parameter, and `catalogue.loaded` is the column that says which products have a table here. Each table is described from Eurostat's own catalogue metadata: title, theme path, product type, covered period range and cube size. Two companions come with them: `catalogue`, the complete Eurostat table of contents with update dates, coverage and ready-made browser and API links, and `geographies`, decoding every reporting geo code (countries, candidates, EFTA, EU and euro-area aggregates) into English names. Periods keep Eurostat's own coding alongside a sortable start date, values keep Eurostat's revision flags, and figures are merged in place on every run because Eurostat revises what it has published.

• GBIF species occurrences in Romania

  Species-occurrence records for Romania, published by GBIF — the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, the international reference infrastructure for biodiversity data. Each row is one observation, museum specimen, sample or sensor reading for one species, at one place and time, exactly as published by whichever of GBIF’s thousands of contributing institutions and citizen-science projects submitted it — museums, universities, NGOs, monitoring programmes, platforms like iNaturalist and eBird. REFERENCED LIVE, NOT COPIED: both tables are published as views over GBIF’s own monthly Parquet snapshot on its public AWS Open Data bucket, so no row is stored in this directory’s lake and every query reads GBIF directly. That means the data is always exactly what GBIF currently publishes for the pinned snapshot — and it means there is no history here beyond that one snapshot, no row counts or column statistics of our own, and a query needs network access to s3://gbif-open-data-eu-central-1 (public, no credentials). GBIF assigns EACH RECORD, individually, one of three Creative Commons licences — never the dataset as a whole — and that per-record licence is carried straight through into the `license` column rather than flattened into one label; see `license.notes` for the measured breakdown and what each value requires of a reuser.

• geo-spatial.org — Romanian open geodata

  The whole geo-spatial.org open-geodata platform for Romania, landed rather than linked: its ISO-19139 GeoNetwork catalogue, its GeoServer WFS service materialised one table per feature type — administrative boundaries from ANCPI, the 2021 population and housing census by county and ethnicity from INS, national grids, settlements and the community's own layers — its published GeoParquet downloads, and the index of the site that documents them. Every generated table carries the layer's own attributes with their own types, plus its geometry as WGS 84 (EPSG:4326) WKT and a computed bounding box, so a spatial question is a WHERE clause rather than a download. service_layers.table_name is the index of the generated tables.

• GHCN-Daily: global daily weather observations

  The global daily weather observation archive NOAA publishes as the Global Historical Climatology Network – Daily, kept in the source’s own long form — one row per station, day and element: maximum and minimum temperature, precipitation, snow, wind, pressure, humidity, sunshine, soil temperature and weather types. About 3.2 billion measurements from 132,501 stations worldwide, some reaching back to 1750, plus the 782,538-row inventory saying which years and elements each station covers. REFERENCED LIVE, NOT COPIED: five of the six tables — observations, stations, inventory, countries, states — are published as views over NOAA’s own public AWS Open Data bucket, so no row of them is stored in this directory’s lake and every query reads NOAA directly. That means the data is always exactly what NOAA publishes right now, which matters more here than for most sources: NOAA reprocesses its ENTIRE period of record every day, so a stored copy would freeze yesterday’s revision of an archive that runs from 1763 to today. It also means there is no history of what a value used to say before NOAA revised it, no row counts or column statistics of our own, and a query needs network access to s3://noaa-ghcn-pds (public, no credentials). The sixth table, elements, IS stored here as ordinary parquet — all 213 documented measurement types rather than a curated handful — because it is transcribed from the source’s prose readme and has no upstream file to read live. Every observation row carries both the integer NOAA published and the value converted to its real unit, alongside the quality, measurement and source flags that say how far to trust it.

  Every act the Portal Legislativ of the Romanian Ministry of Justice holds from Monitorul Oficial al României, with its complete text — laws, ordinances, emergency ordinances, government decisions, decrees, ministerial orders and Constitutional Court decisions. One row is one Portal Legislativ document — the portal's own record of an act — and that is the grain, deliberately: nothing in the source establishes that the portal holds every act ever published in Partea I, and a document whose gazette citation cannot be parsed out of its text still lands here, with a null mo_date. Coverage is Partea I (the acts of general application), a smaller pool of Partea a V-a records, and, for the period before 1989, the predecessor Buletinul Oficial; the corpus reaches back to the 1830s. Parts II, III, IV, VI and VII are NOT covered — no parliamentary debates, no company or association announcements, no public procurement notices. One caveat about completeness: the source paginates without a stable server-side sort and publishes no total count, so a single crawl both returns some acts twice and can miss others entirely. The repeats are collapsed on document_id before publication; the omissions are filled in by later runs, because acts are upserted — completeness here is approached run after run, never guaranteed by any one of them. The acts that do arrive are complete and correct in themselves: the risk is coverage, not corruption.

  The Romanian slice of OpenAlex, the free open catalogue of the global research system (built by OurResearch, successor to Microsoft Academic Graph). Institutions located in Romania, and every scholarly work OpenAlex indexes with at least one Romanian-affiliated authorship — article, book chapter, preprint, dataset. Authorships are kept relational rather than nested: work_authorships is one row per (work, author, Romanian institution), so a reader can ask "who are Romania's most-cited researchers" or "which field is Romania publishing most in" directly in SQL. REFERENCED LIVE, NOT COPIED: all three tables are published as views over OpenAlex's own Parquet snapshot on the AWS Open Data bucket s3://openalex, so no row is stored in this directory's lake and every query reads OpenAlex directly — a citation count OpenAlex has since revised, or a correction to a title or a retraction flag, shows up in the next query with no re-ingest here. That also means there is no history beyond the one query each view was published with, no row counts or column statistics of our own, and a query needs network access to s3://openalex (public, no credentials). The bucket has no partition on country, so filtering works/work_authorships to Romania costs a genuine column scan of the works archive — this connector publishes the complete archive's view by default (since=all), which costs nothing to publish under federation; a query against the resulting view pays whatever scan the query itself needs.

• Overture Maps for Romania: divisions, places and buildings

  The open map of Romania, clipped out of the Overture Maps Foundation’s public GeoParquet release: all 19,485 administrative entities (the country, its 42 counties/județe, its 3,179 municipalities/UATs and its 14,414 localities) with their territory polygons and border lines, 327,091 points of interest, and 12,474,972 building footprints. Geometry is published as WKT in WGS 84 alongside a bounding box and a Hilbert spatial key, so a map-window question reads only the part of the country it asks about. Overture conflates OpenStreetMap, machine-detected building footprints from Microsoft and Google, Esri Community Maps and commercial place providers; every row carries its own provenance and its own licence in the `sources` column. Three of Overture’s six themes are included — divisions, places and buildings. Addresses are absent because, measured, the theme contains no Romanian rows at all; transportation and base are deferred for the reasons given in the README. REFERENCED LIVE, NOT COPIED: all five tables are published as views over Overture’s own GeoParquet release on its public AWS Open Data bucket, so no row is stored in this directory’s lake and every query reads Overture directly. That means the data is always exactly the release the published view points at — a newer Overture release becomes visible the moment this connector is re-run — and it means there is no history here beyond that one release, no row counts or column statistics of this platform’s own making, and a query needs network access to s3://overturemaps-us-west-2 (public, no credentials) plus DuckDB’s `spatial` extension loaded locally, for reading the source as much as for turning `geometry_wkt` back into a geometry.

  Every utility fault and street works site currently announced in Bucharest — sewerage, gas, district heating, consumer electricity, the road surface itself and the tram and trolleybus traction network — as published on Primăria Municipiului București's interactive map. One row per announced fault: the street, the network operator responsible, the announced repair window, and the location as coordinates. The map shows only what is announced right now and keeps no archive of its own; this dataset builds that archive, hour by hour, and makes it queryable.

• Romanian elections: turnout and results

  Romanian elections as the Autoritatea Electorală Permanentă publishes them on prezenta.roaep.ro — turnout and results, from 2020 onwards. The turnout side is the full catalogue of ballots and, for each, an hourly snapshot per polling station: how many voters had voted by one hour and on what basis (permanent list, complementary list, supplementary list, mobile ballot box), with the breakdown by age band and sex, and a second fact table keeping every single year of age from 18 to 120. The results side is the signed proces-verbal of every race: the ballot accounting per polling station, commune or county, and the votes each candidate, party, alliance and referendum answer received — one row per option, so a single query works across every election even though the source publishes one COLUMN per candidate. Alongside them sit the election catalogue, the county list each ballot was run with, the roll of polling stations, and a catalogue of every proces-verbal file, including the PDF scans that are legal documents rather than tables. The source CSVs change their header between elections and between counties; the columns published here are canonical, and every row carries the verbatim header it was mapped from.

• Romanian public procurement (SEAP/SICAP)

  Romanian public procurement as it is published day by day in SEAP/SICAP, down to the line items and the signed contracts. Four families of summary row: the finalised direct awards, the DA award notices that announce the direct purchases made OUTSIDE the electronic catalogue and appear nowhere else, the contract notices that open a tender and the award notices that close one. Underneath each of them is the detail that makes the spending answerable rather than merely countable: the catalogue lines a direct award actually bought, with their unit prices and quantities; the contracts actually signed under an award notice, each with its winning operators, their fiscal codes and their addresses; and the lots a procurement was competed in, advertised and awarded, cancellations included. The contracting authority and the supplier are split into a fiscal code and a name so a join is an equality rather than a text search, the CPV code is split into code, label and division, and every amount is an exact decimal. The source caps any query at 2000 rows, so a day is split recursively — by CPV category, contract type and acquisition state — until each piece fits, and the coverage table records exactly what was reached and what was not.

• Romanian electricity production and consumption history (Transelectrica)

  The measured history of Romania's national power system, out of the workbooks Transelectrica publishes on its own website: national production from 2015-01-01 to 2024-12-31 and national consumption from 2015-01-01 to 2025-12-31, both at quarter-hour resolution since February 2021 and hourly before it, in gross and net values. Beside them sits the archived day-ahead production forecast for 2010-09-01 to 2019-12-31, kept in a table of its own because a forecast is not a measurement. The files are landed as real tables with their own columns and types rather than as links to themselves; the annual network performance reports, being Word documents, remain a catalogue that states why they could not be turned into tables.

  Romania's electricity grid in real time, as published by Transelectrica, the transmission system operator. The SEN feed gives a snapshot roughly every ten seconds: national consumption and production, the eight generation sources, the eighteen interconnection points with Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Moldova and Ukraine, and the 15-minute averages the feed publishes alongside. The source keeps no history — there is only "now" — so this dataset is the history. Beside it sit two series from Transelectrica's prosumers application: installed prosumer capacity by county and month, and hourly production forecasts per county published one and two days ahead.

• USGS earthquakes

  Every earthquake above the chosen magnitude threshold, worldwide, across the entire history of the U.S. Geological Survey’s ANSS Comprehensive Catalog — about 312,000 events at magnitude 4.5 and above, the oldest of them from 1568. One row per event, revised in place as USGS refines the numbers: magnitude, depth and location all move in the hours and days after an event, and historical entries are re-evaluated decades later, so this dataset follows them rather than freezing the first estimate. Each row also carries the uncertainties the catalogue publishes — horizontal and vertical location error, magnitude error, the station counts behind each — and the networks that actually computed the location and the magnitude.

VIDA deduplicates and merges the three into one 2.7-billion-footprint global layer published on Source Cooperative; this dataset is that layer's Romanian slice, verified directly: 12,655,928 footprints, of which 12,491,968 (98.71%) are Microsoft-sourced, 163,960 (1.30%) are OpenStreetMap-sourced, and 0 are Google-sourced — Romania was not covered by Google's Open Buildings detection run. Every row carries its exact source (bf_source), because the three upstream sources carry different licences: OpenStreetMap is ODbL with a share-alike obligation, Microsoft is CDLA Permissive 2.0, and Google is CC BY 4.0. VIDA republishes the merged layer under a single licence, ODbL v1.0 — the strictest of the three — and this dataset does the same. The source has no stable per-building id; geometry is published as WKT polygons in WGS 84.
